+ how to make a Figma plugin in minutes

The pendulum has swung too far with design systems.

Somehow they’ve become synonymous with scale. But I believe they’re the perfect first step for startups.

So this episode looks at stories from Perplexity and Cron to reframe design systems as the key to speed in the early days.

Watch on Youtube, or listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts

Also while I have you… What do you think of the new format so far? Any ideas on how I can improve them?

Here are the first two just in case you missed them:

🤝 DESSN

There’s been a LOT of talk recently on this show about the power of designers who can ship…

And that’s why I’m so excited about a new product called Dessn. It allows you to ship design changes but without having to code 🤯

Just go to your live app… their extension overlays a Figma-like interface so you can easily make design changes.

And then AI writes the code and pushes it to your Github. That means you as a designer can now contribute directly to production.

It is a BIG deal and you can start today 👇

Go behind-the-scenes with HEX

Ayush Soni has long been one of my favorite follows on Twitter… so when he wrote about his process redesigning and developing a new website for Replo I immediately asked him if I could share it with you today 👇

🤝 FEATURED RESOURCE

Make a Figma plugin in minutes with Cursor

I’ve received 20+ messages from designers who have built something with Claude after being inspired by my episode with Meng To about building your ideas with AI.

One of Meng’s pieces of advice was to build a Figma plugin as your first step.

That’s why I wanted to share this ~3 minute walkthrough video from Damiano 👇

🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE

Now goodies this week

1️⃣ Fun landing page concept

I recently came across the landing page for Fons Mans’ visual design course and fell in love. It definitely sparked some ideas for me so hopefully it does for you as well.

2️⃣ Plastic transparent style

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this bright orange shelf. It’s a weird place to draw inspiration from I know 😅 but I keep imagining what it would look like to treat a website like a wall that you hang things on.

What if you designed images from your portfolio as magazines and sat them on a shelf like this? The possibilities are endless…

So you can imagine my excitement when I saw the new Burner website for the first time 😍 It’s easily one of my favorite sites I’ve seen in the last few months.

I don’t know where I’m going to make use of this aesthetic but I’m committed to making it happen. Let me know if you explore it!

3️⃣ Dashed progress bars

I’ve really been enjoying Farhan’s work lately. You should 100% follow him if you’re not already.

This dashed progress bar is my latest save from him. I’ve never used this style before but the next time I’m working with data I’m definitely going to explore it.

Meet the Dive partners

I made a list of my favorite products and asked them to come on as sponsors of the newsletter/podcast. They said yes 🥹

The #1 way to support Dive Club is to check them out👇
