+ a new design engineering game you gotta play

When it comes to tools and workflows, Brian Lovin is someone I pay very close attention to.

He’s actually the one who first got me hooked on Conductor.

But times are changing (again 😅)…

So today’s episode is a deep dive into his design process and all of the ways he’s iterating on his approach to both using AI tools as well as building AI tools at Notion.

If you like getting into the weeds of how the best designers are wrangling AI then you’re going to love this episode.

Some highlights:

  • Why Brian has started using Cursor again

  • Practical tips for prompting AI more effectively

  • Behind-the-scenes of Brian’s new side project

  • How Brian built Notion’s prototyping playground

  • How to stay relevant as a designer in an AI world

  • Why his first Notion design offsite was so impactful

  • + a lot more

👥 FEATURED RESOURCE

New design opportunities

I’m officially doubling down on the talent network because it’s really starting to pick up steam and there are few things more life-giving than helping someone land a dream role.

Here are the companies who joined this week:

If you want me to promote the heck out of you to these teams or any of the others (Lovable, Granola, Superpower, Livekit, etc.) then drop your info here 👇

🔗 FEATURED RESOURCES

Train your judgement

You gotta try this game by Emil Kowalski. Pick which animation feels correct, and then see Emil’s explanation. It’s about as fun as masterclasses get 😄 I’ve learned more about design engineering from Emil than anyone so you definitely don’t want to miss Animations.dev (just re-opened today!).

Ultra Mock

So I saw Ultra Mock by Josh Millgate on Twitter and immediately bought it while working on a new version of the Inflight website.

It’s a fantastic product and an easy way to spice up your portfolio.

Mesurer

I’m pretty obsessed with these little localhost tools (like Dialkit and Agentation which you hear me talk about on the podcast a ton). Here’s another handy one I’m excited about 👇

🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE

3 things I saved this week

1️⃣ Gradient cursor

One of the more beautiful concepts I’ve seen lately 😍

2️⃣ Sliding tab pattern

More lovely details from Define 👀

3️⃣ Security badges

So I made a new Inflight website. There are some really fun design details on there imo but I’ll probably simplify it radically this week to improve the storytelling.

Anyway… I did spend some time researching SOC2 badges which led me back to this concept from Oguz which I love.

I ended up going with a space theme 😅
