building the design language for AI with shaders

Nelson Noa is pushing shaders further than any designer I’ve ever seen 👀

So I asked him to give a behind-the-scenes of the work he’s doing for Genie and the animations and intentionality blew me away.
I think you’ll find the way he thinks about physics, lighting, and metaphors very inspiring in this video 👇
🤝 WITH PAPER
I saw a scroll-stopping tweet the other day…
The creators of Tailwind are working directly on Paper to train the output to be perfect.
They even invested in the company 😳
So just think about the possibilities for a second…

In the future you could design something in Paper and then just right-click and copy the perfect Tailwind as if the creators wrote it by hand.
Or take an existing code component and import it into Paper to make edits directly on the canvas.
This is going to totally change how we design and deliver UIs for the web and it’s another reason why I’m betting on Paper as the next great design tool.
You can try it out today, just click the link to get started 👇
🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE
Vercel’s web interface guidelines
Craft requires intentionality. And intentionality requires you to see all of the tiny decisions that together make for a great interface.

So Vercel put together a “living, non-exhaustive list of those decisions.”
Definitely bookmark this 👇
🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE
The secret of good metaphors
My main takeaway when interviewing Jason Yuan was how metaphors were at the core of his design practice.
I remember thinking that is what it looks like to push past craft.
And in a world where 7/10 design becomes attainable for the masses, metaphors will separate great products from the rest.
“At its core, metaphors perform a simple yet profound function: they bridge the unfamiliar with the familiar.”
So I saved this article to train my brain to think more in metaphors :)

🤝 FEATURED RESOURCE
Introducing Cursor Learn
ICYMI Lee Robinson switched from Vercel to Cursor to lead education which is a pretty big deal if you’re trying to ramp up on coding with AI.
He recently just announced Cursor Learn so I wanted to share the initial release with you today.

It’s a six-part video series on AI foundations that is designed for beginners to learn concepts like tokens, context, and agents.
There are even quizzes and AI models to play with so I hope it helps :)
🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE
3 things I saved this week
1️⃣ Animated keyboard shortcut in tooltip
I love this subtle animation from Supercut. There are so many delightful design details like this in their product (episode coming soon!).

2️⃣ Interlocked pattern
This little pattern is super easy to replicate and looks great. No idea what I’d use it for yet but I’m saving it for later.

3️⃣ Glowing button component
The level of detail in this button 🤌

How much did you enjoy this issue?Never hesitate to reply with feedback too :) |
