🤿 untapped opportunity

+ designer's guide to prototyping in Cursor

A year ago, it felt like AI-generated UI was about to have its moment.

But now the landscape looks a LOT different than what people expected.

So this episode answers the question "what's next?"

Because there's still an untapped opportunity that I believe will become very real soon... šŸ‘‡

šŸ¤ WITH JITTER

So you’ve heard me rave about Jitter’s new infinite canvas for animation

But don’t forget, they have a totally revamped Figma plugin to support it ✨

  • Import Figma slides into Jitter

  • Multi-select layers and frames

  • Also import your entire Figma file at once

It’s seriously never been easier to animate your designs and Jitter has become my first choice anytime I need to add motion

šŸ”— FEATURED RESOURCE

Jony Ive’s Stripe Session

ā€œThe best design talk this week wasn’t at the world’s biggest design conference but next door at Stripe Sessionsā€¦ā€

I can’t have a design newsletter and not share legendary Apple designer Jony Ive’s recent talk šŸ˜…

The conversation is all about designing for humans. One of my favorite parts is when he talks about ritualizing creativity.

Enjoy 🫶

šŸ”— FEATURED RESOURCE

Pricing page technique I’m stealing

The industry standard has become defaulting to ā€œannualā€ pricing so that the monthly number looks cheaper.

But Andrea Bosoni brought up a valid point — for most people they aren’t ready to pay annually for a product they haven’t tested. This means you’re price anchoring against yourself because the monthly price now feels expensive (even though relative to competitors it might not be).

So moving forward I’m going to copy what Simple Analytics is doing because it’s kinda brilliant.

They default to monthly and then just add a 0 when you switch to annual šŸ’”

Also I originally found this through Harry’s Marketing Examples newsletter which is an underrated source of design inspiration…

Designer’s guide to prototyping in Cursor

A lot of people were inspired by how much the Gamma design team is working in Cursor šŸ‘€

So I thought this episode of How I AI would be a nice follow up šŸ’Ŗ

In it, Joel Unger shows how he uses AI to speed up design, animate assets, and bridge the gap with devs when working as a design director leading Trello.

3 things I saved this week

1ļøāƒ£ Figma make empty state

This may seem pretty plain but I’ll be honest… one of the aspects of product design I struggle the most with is coming up with unique empty states.

So I grabbed a screenshot of what Figma Make is doing because I think it works nicely šŸ‘Œ

2ļøāƒ£ Particle’s dynamic summaries

I’ve been hunting for a pattern like this to use for the insights reports in Inflight šŸ‘€

For each article you might want a different type of summary (ex: the who/what/why vs. visualizing what the opposing views are on a topic).

So Particle has this nice dropdown to customize what you see as the TLDR of an article. Pretty great use of AI šŸ‘Œ

3ļøāƒ£ Grid website concept from Meng To

Meng To is good at the design (and has one of the most popular episodes ever on building your ideas with AI).

So I want to share his recent website Aura with you because he’s doing some really interesting things with grids. I particularly like how he nests rounded corners inside of darker fills šŸ‘€

How much did you enjoy this issue?
