🤿 king of vibe coding

+ free web animation lesson

When it comes to vibe coding, Ryo Lu (Head of Design at Cursor) is in a league of his own.

Don’t believe me? Just check out his personal website lol.

So in this episode he’s taking us behind-the-scenes while sharing the exact prompts he used to build his latest experiment Protoland šŸ‘€

This level of access is crazy. Like even while we were recording in my head I thought ā€œI can’t believe how cool this isā€ šŸ˜†

So if you’re interested in building your ideas with AI then I think you’re going to like this one šŸ‘‡

šŸ¤ WITH JITTER

My favorite animation tool Jitter just dropped a big time release…

You can now draw your own shapes using their all-new pen tool and animate them with fluid shape-to-shape transitions It’s a huge unlock for motion design in Jitter.

And a great way to create animations that are truly one of a kind.

So if you’re still sleeping… it’s time to wake up ā°

Crafting animations that feel right

I’m having more fun designing than at any point in my career… and a big reason why is I’m finally owning a lot of the frontend.

But the more I take responsibility for the finer UX details the more I recognize my skill gaps 🄲

For me, animation is top of the list.

I want to learn how to make something feel amazing so I signed up for Emil Kowalski’s animation.dev course yesterday.

It’s an interactive learning experience that teaches you how to craft animations that feel right and I’ve seen enough FOMO on Twitter that I’m not going to miss this enrollment window.

So first off, if you want to join me maybe we can share what we make in the Dive Club community?

Second, I asked Emil if I could share something for free and he agreed :) So if you want to get a little taste of the curriculum then check out this lesson šŸ‘‡

šŸ”— FEATURED RESOURCE

Malleable software

We’re exiting the world of rigid, one-size fits all software.

A ~year ago, ā€œdynamic interfacesā€ were all the rage. But I think we’re settling into a more realistic middle ground of ā€œmalleable softwareā€ where users mold and shape their tools over time.

Tyler Angert first introduced me to this idea in his episode unveiling his new startup (he encouraged me to think of malleable software kind of like rearranging the furniture in your apartment a little bit at a time).

In Friday’s episode, Ryo Lu shares similar thoughts when talking about the future state of Cursor’s design. He thinks about the product more as a collection of primitives that users (and AI) can customize to meet their needs.

That’s why I wanted to pair it with this article about ā€œrestoring user agency in a world of locked-down appsā€.

It’s beefy, but it’s very good.

Some of my favorite ideas:

  1. In the physical world, the act of crafting our environments comes naturally… shouldn’t software be the same?

  2. Future products will have a ā€œgentle slope from user to creatorā€

  3. A world where users edit existing apps rather than use AI to create new siloed applications might be better for everyone

  4. Many applications today are like avocado slicers (simple and narrowly focused) vs. general purpose tools like a knife. What would it look like to reorient software around more general, composable tools?

3 things I saved this week

1ļøāƒ£ Unique dropdown concept

I’m pretty obsessed with this dropdown concept from Jhey. He’s also one of my favorite creators on the Twitter bird if you’re not following him already āœŒļø

2ļøāƒ£ Glassy toggle

Speaking of favorite Twitter follows, Bradley’s toggle concept is pretty incredible.

You might’ve checked out his work after Julian shouted out the new Antimetal website in last week’s episode on storytelling.

3ļøāƒ£ Interstellar art

Alright this one is a bit out in left field but I’ve started saving more art direction concepts now that I feel like I can make something like this in Visual Electric.

Pretty cool right? I’d love an excuse to make a brand out of this.

How much did you enjoy this issue?
