The strategy I'm stealing from Granola

There are two goals that designers almost always group together:

  1. Make a useful product

  2. Make it easy to understand

But my interview with Sam Stephenson changed my thinking completely 👀

So this episode breaks down Granola’s go-to-market strategy and why I’m copying it for my own startup👇

🤝 WITH JITTER

You already know how big of a Jitter fan I am but their latest release is hands down the best one yet.

Now Jitter has an infinite canvas for animation design 🙌

Within 30 seconds of using it… I knew this was always the way it should be:

  • Iterating is 10x easier

  • Collaborating with team members makes way more sense

  • And you can scale content across formats using multiple artboards all in a single file

Jitter is crazy… like this product is so good now you gotta try it out 👇

P.S. If you’ll be at Config London I’m hosting an after party with Fons Mans, Jitter and Raycast — you should definitely come :)

🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE

Design for the AI age

This week I have one big design task on my plate: figure out an effective system prompt to test conversational AI in the feedback UX for Inflight.

It’s unlike any design task I’ve ever faced 😳

So I’m definitely feeling this quote from Karri (Linear’s CEO) right now…

“This shift from deterministic traditional UI to something more unbridled raises a challenge for designers: with no predictable journeys to optimize, how do you create consistent, high-quality experiences?”

Karri Saarinen

So I’m acting on one of my biggest takeaways from the recent AI interviews: start with function, and then work backward to to shape the form.

Because we don’t yet fully understand what AI can do, trying to shape the form with unknown function feels a bit like trying to build a bridge over a foggy chasm, without a clear view of the other side.

The full article from Karri is a good one if you want a glimpse into how Linear thinks about complementing traditional UI with AI functions 👇

Why I always create a map of my Figma org

The most complex part of using Figma at a high level has nothing to do with prototyping, auto layout, or anything in the file…

It’s figuring out a plan for variables and where components should live in your org.

So today I’m sharing a snippet of one of my Figma Academy live sessions 👀

I also just added 6+ hours of live session recordings to the self-serve course if you want to go deeper ✌️

💬 COMMUNITY QUESTION

What do you want to ask Mig Reyes?

I want to test out a new thing…

Each Tuesday I’ll preview an upcoming interview and you can let me know what question you’d like me to ask the guest (starting with Mig Reyes the VP of Product Experience Duolingo)!

All you have to do is hit reply on this email and share your question :)

It can be about anything from career growth to design leadership to the future of UX. It doesn’t have to be polished or overly smart—just let me know what’s on your mind!

I’ll then give you a shout out in the episode ✌️

🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE

3 things I saved this week

1️⃣ Overlaid cards with sketched borders

So I’m recording an episode with Raycast in-person at the podcast house in London.

And their website has no business being as good as it is 😅

The colors are great. The art direction on the imagery is incredible (especially the interior page). And I’m obsessed with this sketched border motif.

2️⃣ Fresh visual identity

I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the new Sublime product that launched last week so I finally checked it out.

The visual identity is very fresh.

Honestly it’s one of those products where it’s worth going through the onboarding just to study it. There’s a rawness to the UI that I really appreciate.

3️⃣ Dia’s AI personalization

I’m paying special attention to how product’s create interfaces that help user’s shape their experience with AI.

Here’s a glimpse of the controls that the Browser Company surfaces in their new product Dia 👀

How much did you enjoy this issue?
