🤿 design's Cursor moment?
maybe AI design doesn't have to suck

In a recent episode, Pietro Schirano shared how the best designers will become AI architects 👀
So today we’re doing a deep dive into his new design tool MagicPath (which he chose to start instead of taking a job offer from Anthropic).
I like to think of MagicPath as a hybrid between Lovable and Figma. You get the power of code-based prototypes paired with the messiness of a spatial canvas.
It’s also fascinating to hear Pietro share his vision for the future of design workflows so I think you’ll really enjoy this one 👇
🤝 WITH LOVABLE
If you’re a student then I have some pretty incredible news…
Lovable is offering 50% off their Pro plan 🤯

This is easily one of the most impactful products that I’ve used in the last year.
I was literally just creating a prototype before writing this up so I can’t recommend the product enough.
You can build incredible apps, websites, and prototypes in minutes just by chatting with AI.
PS. Use the code DIVECLUB in the next 30 days to get an additional discount 🤫

My live design session with James McDonald
Last week I did a live design CRIT with one of my favorite designers (James McDonald) to jam on the UI for Inflight in front of ~5,000 people.

It ended up being a 2 hour deep dive into the nuances of UI design 😅
James shared a ton of tactics for nailing the finer details of craft, thinking through color strategy, and a lot more so I hope you enjoy it!

A treatise on AI chatbots undermining the Enlightenment

I’ve received as much positive feedback about Vitaly’s “Beyond Chat” episode as any I’ve ever released.
And I think this article by Maggie Appleton builds on his ideas nicely. Here’s what she says:
“The interface affordances and design decisions built into generic chatbots do not encourage or support critical thinking workflows and interactions. And that users have no clue they’re supposed to be compensating for these weaknesses by becoming expert prompt engineers.”
Similar to Vitaly, Maggie suggests we rely more on UI affordances:
“We could make it easy to switch the generic chatbots into critique mode with a handy toggle, settings switch, or sliding scale…”
She even offers an “unserious, low effort suggestion” toggle within Claude:

Maggie has long been one of my favorite thinkers when it comes to AI. We even filmed an episode all about becoming an AI-native designer.
So I think you’ll enjoy this window into her thought process 👇

🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE
3 things I saved this week
1️⃣ Windsurf’s wave pattern
When I was prepping for last week’s interview with the Windsurf lead design engineer I realized how much I adore their brand elements 😍
Also I may or may not have an episode upcoming with Sara Vienna from Metalab (who was behind the rebrand) so that’s something to look forward to.

2️⃣ Fun toggle concept
I haven’t seen a toggle interaction like this before! Pretty cool 👌

3️⃣ Speaking of gooey UI…
New rule: for every 100 pieces of inspiration I’m allowed to shamelessly share my own work.

This gooey sidebar concept didn't quite make the cut but it still feels so satisfying to play with so I want someone to see it 😅
How much did you enjoy this issue?Never hesitate to reply with feedback too :) |
