🤿 and what of...

+ a new source of design inspiration 👀

Happy Saturday 👋

I’m designing a new product (and starting to show it to people) and a few months ago I would’ve confidently said it’s not an AI product.

But I was wrong.

This new technology creates endless opportunities… we just have to be able to see what AI makes possible. And that’s what this episode is all about 👇

This episode features:

🤝 FRAMER

For years I’ve been paying for third party website analytics but I can finally cancel those subscriptions because Framer just released their all-new analytics dashboard.

It’s built into every plan and it’s even fully GDPR compliant without the need for a cookie banner.

That way you can get a complete breakdown of how your site is performing directly into your dashboard.

It’s just another reason why I tell everyone to use Framer for their websites 👇

🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE

LLMs explained (briefly)

A big theme throughout the recent interviews is the importance of understanding the materials you’re designing for. For example you might’ve caught this quote in the recent episode with the 1st designer at Replit 👇

“The kinds of things you can design and build, or even think of are directly related to the concepts that you understand. If all you know about machine learning is “oh, there's this big company out in California that takes in my text and it gives me text back” then you're going to have a very limited understanding of the kinds of applications that you can build.”

So here’s the best, most succinct explanation I’ve found on how LLMs actually work. It’s honestly one of the better teaching videos I’ve ever seen on any topic 👇

🔑 KEY IDEA

4 tactics I’m stealing from Smith & Diction

It didn’t take long to realize that Mike and Chara from Smith & Diction have more hacks and mental models for brand strategy than anyone I know.

So here are a few of my favorites that I’m taking with me from our interview 👇

🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE

Curated design inspiration

Alright I found another source of design inspiration that I’m really excited about. Not only is the website a gold mine but they’re also a solid follow on Twitter.

🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE

3 things I saved this week

1️⃣ Gradient buttons from Oguz

I think my favorite part is the subtle shadow and layering effect within the icons. Also note how the text and border use different colors. I think it’s pretty common to use a single color there but that lighter text paired with the icon really makes this design unique.

2️⃣ “And what of…” hover states

I have a soft spot in my heart for low fidelity UI done well. But to really understand the beauty of this design you have to feel these cards. So if you’re on your computer spend 20 seconds on these hover states 👇

3️⃣ Fading out mockup at the bottom

The new Outseta website is beautiful. But I wanted to specifically highlight how they fade out the hero mockup at the bottom. It creates a neat effect and also allows you to make the entire site more dense because the H2 below can bump right against it.

How much did you enjoy this issue?
