🤿 prototype & prune
my #1 source of imposter syndrome

My #1 source of imposter syndrome is when I see designers prototyping beautiful interactions like this or even this 👀

It’s one thing to create gorgeous interfaces, but crafting complex interactions from first principles is designing on expert mode.
And it’s a big reason why Linear lists interactions as a requirement three separate times in their job description for principal designer.
So this week’s episode is all about unlocking the skill of interaction design 👇
🤝 WITH LOVABLE
So here’s the thing… the last few prototypes I’ve made haven’t been in Figma.
Instead I’m using Lovable and honestly… it feels like magic to create real software without touching any code. You can literally build whatever you can come up with and it’s good.
I’m genuinely proud of the prototypes I’m making and developers can’t believe how quickly I’m able to bring my ideas to life.

So this is your wake up call. Don’t stay stuck in rectangle land.
Lovable is way easier than you think and I’m having more fun designing than I have in a long time

🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE
Our interfaces have lost their senses
I can confidently say that Amelia Wattenberger has the most beautiful essays on the internet.
And her latest might be her best yet…

Many of my recent Inflight explorations revolve around conversational UX so I’m thinking about how to support concurrent modalities a lot lately.
As a result, I found this essay so inspiring that I pasted screenshots directly into my Figma canvas 😅
🔗 FEATURED RESOURCE
Death of product development as we know it
There are two types of companies:
Those that adapt to AI
Those that are birthed out of AI
Studying their operational differences has quickly become my favorite topic to explore (and is a big theme in upcoming episodes) 👇

This article by Julie Zhou (featuring insights from Henry Modisett) does a fantastic job of breaking down some of those differences.
Old world → “Mocks and docs”
New world → “Prototype and prune”

3 things I saved this week
1️⃣ Graffiti statues concept
Another week, another order of magnitude leap in AI capabilities. You can now use ChatGPT to generate imagery of anything you can see in your mind’s eye.
When beauty is a commodity, creativity is king.

Anyone can ride a Studio Ghibli wave, but Oguz was one of the few people who stopped me in my tracks with something truly unique.
2️⃣ Cards as protruding paper
I’m pretty obsessed with this concept from Drew Wilson. Not sure I’ve seen a shadow technique like this before 👀

3️⃣ Sci-fi connector line style
I have very little context for what Ayda is designing here, but the connector style is incredibly fresh.

A gripe I have with spatial products is they typically embrace low-fidelity style UI (think: dotted lines). In contrast this concept feels straight out of a sci-fi film and I love it.
How much did you enjoy this issue?Never hesitate to reply with feedback too :) |
Meet the Dive partners
I made a list of my favorite products and asked them to come on as sponsors of the newsletter/podcast. They said yes 🥹
