🤿 window of opportunity

What "high agency" looks like for designers in 2025

There's a parallel I'm noticing between what's happening today with AI and what happened way back in ~2013…

And it's creating a window of opportunity for designers 👀

So this episode studies the early days of Snapchat, the emergence of high-fidelity prototyping tools, and answers the question “what does it look like to have agency in 2025?” 👇

🤝 WITH GENWAY

I've been using AI agents to do research and something surprising is happening 👇

For context I use Genway in two ways:

  1. contextual interviews → I prompt the AI with what I’m hoping to learn and it has a dynamic conversation with each person

  2. usability testing → I uploaded early Inflight Figma prototypes and Genway’s AI agent helps me test them with real people

But here’s the surprising part… At the end of the interview most people say they're MORE comfortable opening up to an AI agent than a human 😮

Unicorn Studio tutorial

You might’ve heard me tell Nad from Lovable about this new tool called Unicorn Studio. If you’re not familiar, it’s an easy way to create seriously cool animations using WebGL.

I’ve been hunting for good tutorials for a while now and Tom Johnson from Basedash just dropped a banger 👇

The race is on to redesign everything for agents

Last week Linear released their new Human, meet Agent page.

“we’re introducing a platform for a new model of collaboration. One where human and artificial intelligence work side by side.”

Linear

If you can’t clearly imagine what that looks like then you’re not alone. But one thing is clear, each step we take into an agentic world creates a lot of UX challenges (read: opportunities).

So this week I want to highlight a new article from Tina He.

We’ve got to start designing everything with agents in mind. Because in addition to millions of humans, your customers will soon be billions of AIs that see the world in a totally different way.

Tina He

That means optimizing for “agentic attention” (i.e. ways to make it easier for AI to see and understand the different parts of your product).

“Fail to consider your product from the standpoint of an agent and your company risks becoming invisible to these new decision-makers.”

Tina He

All of a sudden, your ability to effectively structure data for AI means a lot more than “clever animations or emotional storytelling”.

“It's no longer just about brand awareness or emotional appeals—it's about ensuring your digital product is structured in ways that make AI systems confident in recommending it”

Tina He

💬 COMMUNITY QUESTION

What do you want to ask Jesse Kulp?

This week I’m interviewing Jesse Kulp who was the original designer of Google’s AI studio.

He’s going to give a behind-the-scenes of what it was like going 0→1 on a Google AI product as the sole designer.

Anything you want us to talk about? Just reply to this email and I’ll give you a shoutout in the episode :)

🧃 INSPIRATION JUICE

3 things I saved this week

1️⃣ OpenAI intelligence slider

OpenAI unveiled a clever slider in their new canvas product.

I love seeing what new patterns emerge within AI products 👀

2️⃣ Fun portfolio page

If I’m a hiring manager I’m moving Roman’s application to the next stage immediately.

This portfolio concept is creative, beautiful, and I love how he takes me directly to the live products (because at the end of the day that’s what I really want to see).

3️⃣ 3d icon hover state

Thomas just dropped the freshest icons I’ve seen in a bit. Everything about this hover state is A+ 👏

How much did you enjoy this issue?
